Maribeth S. Toumberlin of Seaford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Maribeth was born to Donna Franchetti and Ken Henry on Sept. 3, 1960, but was fortunate enough to have a second birthday on Nov. 28, 1960, where she found her permanent home to Virginia “Ruth” Starnes and William A. Slatcher.

She married Ed Toumberlin on April 4, 1993, where they created a beautiful life together for 31 years. She was previously married to Allen Dunn on May 2, 1981, where they had two daughters together.

Maribeth loved sports growing up, including the swim team at both SSA and the Seaford Golf and Country Club (SGCC), baton twirling, field hockey, cheerleading, volleyball, softball, ice skating, and bowling. She loved riding her horse Maverick, as well as traveling the world. In her life she traveled to Germany, Italy, France, England, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Hawaii, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and going to Florida every year for Easter. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing yard work, cooking, and going to the beach or sitting by the pool. Many memories were made as a family at Harrington Raceway and Casino enjoying good food, dancing to live music, and winning on her favorite machines.

Maribeth was a worker, she started at the early age of 12 working for Carlton’s Men’s Apparel. After high school, she went on to work for Bridgeville Print Shack. She then started working for Wilmington Trust, where she worked for 23 years, and continued with M&T Bank for another 22 years. She worked a total of 45 years at the bank doing what she loved. She was also a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia “Ruth” Starnes and William A.  Slatcher; grandparents, Grady and Lucille Starnes and Gus and Emma Slatcher; birth brother, Jonathan Cooper and Fredric “Butchie” Cooper III.

Maribeth is survived by her husband of 31 years, Edward Toumberlin; daughters, Andrea Carels (Brandon) and Alison Shockley (Ryan); sisters, Jenny Linton and Jan Wishart (Kevin); brother, Craig Slatcher (Diane); grandchildren, Jaidyn, Kreidyn, Westyn, Brittney, Owen, and Emmie; stepmother, Dolores Slatcher; and birth mother, Donna Franchetti. She is also survived by her lifelong friend and father of her girls, Allen Dunn (Nita), as well as many nieces, nephews, and a great niece and nephew.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 27 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford.

During her battle and fight against pancreatic cancer, Maribeth made a friend. Dawson Lankford is a four-year-old little boy who is also fighting the toughest battle of his little life. Dawson was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was just a baby. Maribeth and Dawson’s mother, Jessica, would send encouraging text messages back and forth. When Maribeth was having a tough day or was in the hospital, Dawson would send her videos telling her to stay strong and he loved her. Maribeth thought the world of this little boy. With that being said, she has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be directly made to Dawson Lankford’s Go Fund Me (https://gofund.me/6d2351f7) . Donations can also be mailed to Jessica Lankford at 901 Park Dr, Seaford, DE 19973.
