Betty S. James of Laurel passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 at home. She was born at the family farm in Woodenhawk, Bridgeville on Sept. 4, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Alfonso and Ethel Stuart. She was married to Bill James in 1951 until his death in 1994. 

She was the valedictorian of her class at Bridgeville High School. Betty was an executive legal secretary in Georgetown, and was the executive assistant at the State’s Attorney’s office. She and her husband owned and operated Consumer’s Warehouse and National Supply for 30 years. 

Betty traveled with a group of friends for many years across the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia. She enjoyed attending her grandsons’ football and lacrosse games. She was known as a great cook and baker. Betty also was a dog lover. She is survived by her only child, Brent and his wife Michelle, and grandsons Brent II (Anya) and Beau (Melissa).
