William C. Sommers, Jr. of Laurel, passed away on Nov. 11, 2020 at Tidal Health Nanticoke in Seaford. He was born in Federalsburg on July 4, 1932 to the late William C. Sommers and Katherine Currey Sommers.

Bill had worked for Mitchells Furniture Store in Laurel for eight years and then decided to enter trade school for HVAC and refrigeration. After completion of his schooling, he began his 35 year career with Sears. He retired as a service technician at Sears with over 35 years of service in the HVAC department.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed camping, photography, wood working, and fishing. He was a past member of Christ United Methodist Church and held many positions with in the church. He is survived by his wife Shirley Sommers.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his siblings; Mary Baker, Betty Hitch, and Harry Charles Sommers. Several nieces and nephews survive him.

A graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel on Thursday, Nov. 19 at noon. Due to the COVID-19 restriction, masks and social distancing will be required. Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
