Wayne Edward Smith of Laurel passed away on April 9, 2024 at his home. Wayne was born on June 4, 1942, to Waldon Smith and Hilda Wootten Smith. He was retired from the E.I. DuPont Company as a supervisor with over 30 years of service. Wayne was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the former Seaford Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf and racing his horses in the Standard Bred Racing Industry.
Wayne is survived by his three daughters, Michelle “Shelley” Dayton and her husband John, Tracy L. Smith, and Donna S. Breasure and her husband Robert; grandchildren, Cole Dayton, Lucas Dayton, and Brandon Breasure; brother, Gary Smith; sisters, Trudy Smith, Robin Smith, and Debbie Wilkerson. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Q. Smith; brother, Raymond Smith and sister, Sharon Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. Rev. Dr. Carl Vincent will officiate.
