Walter Harold English, Sr. of Rhodesdale, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1948 in Cambridge, the son of the late Harold G. English and Lily Mae Stack English.
After graduating from Colonel Richardson High School with the class of 1966, he began a life-long career with E.I. DuPont in Seaford. During his tenure, he served 17 years in manufacturing, and another 17 in maintenance. He retired in December 2001.
He was married to Janet O’Day English. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2021.
He was a member of Gethsemane Church in Reliance since 1988, and served on various boards and committees. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, boating, hosting dock parties with the youth group and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children: Cindy Foster and her husband Mark of Trappe, two sons: Walter English, Jr., of Hurlock and Michael Ellingsworth of Sharptown; five grandchildren, Cassidy Boccher (Joe), Kelsey Cook (Tyler), Bradley Ellingsworth (Megan), Austin Townsend, Conor Ellingsworth; and one great grandson Axel Ellingsworth; and one sister, Sandra Ovens of East New Market.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 7 at Gethsemane Church in Reliance. The Reverend Jordan Forston officiated. Interment followed at Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock.
