It is often said that some of the biggest contributors to a community do so without a lot of hype. Last Thursday, one of those contributors was surprised and honored by the town of Delmar and the state of Delaware.

Delmar Pizza owner Athanasios Minas “Tom” Kostis has contributed food to various organizations in Delmar and beyond for the past 26 years. He was first approached to provide food for the Delmar sports teams before games over 20 years ago and has done so ever since.

Kostis and Delmar Pizza have also provided food for local churches and other organizations and recently donated money for a new sign in State Street Park in Delmar.

For all of this, Rep. Tim Dukes presented Kostis with a house tribute. The Delmar mayors, Council and Commission members, and administration and employees also gave Kostis a key to the town during the surprise ceremony at the restaurant.

“I want to thank every one of you for being behind me for all these years. Without you I wouldn’t be able to do anything. That’s the only way I am able to give back to the community,” said Kostis, whose family was present for the presentation.
