It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Spence Mead Messick Jr. of Laurel, who passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury.
Spence was born on April 20, 1962, in Milford, a son of the late Jane (Lord) Messick and Spence Mead Messick, Sr.
Spence served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a proud Shorinji Kempo Black Belt and was a familiar face in the Mud Bog Community, where he brought his passion for racing to life. With a knack for adventure, he delighted in being out on the water, whether on a boat or crabbing. In his leisure time, you could often find Spence engaged in a competitive game of pool or poker, enjoying the thrill of the game.
He is survived by his sons; Wayne Messick and Shawn Messick (Lindsey); grandchildren, Jayden, Kallen, Sloane, Grayson, and Gemma Messick; his grandmother, Rachel Lord; his sister, Teresa Greene (Dennis); and his nieces, Rachel Dykes (James) and their children Gavin, Liam and Thalia Dykes and Sarah Greene and her children Aaliyah Moore and Gabriel Shockley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Levi Messick.
Spence’s funeral service was held at Short Funeral Home in Delmar on Monday, July 15. Interment was private.
In honor of Spence’s memory, the family kindly requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to cancer or veteran organizations, or a tree be planted in his memory.
