Shirley Kathryn McDonough, formerly of Seaford, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 26, 2025, at Neshaminy Manor in Warrington, Pa.
Born on Dec. 16, 1931, in Doylestown, Pa., Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Dorothy May (Hellyer) and Richard Guy Schirner Sr.
Throughout her life, Shirley touched many lives through her work in both the education and healthcare fields. She had a deep love for music and the arts, enjoyed playing the piano, and expressed her creativity through crocheting and sewing. An avid seamstress, she generously provided alterations for family and friends and found purpose in sewing masks for others during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shirley was deeply committed to serving her community. She devoted many years as a volunteer at the Casa San Francisco food pantry and the Good Samaritan Aid Thrift Shop in Laurel. Her life was a testament to selfless giving—always offering her time, care, and talents to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Philip D. Schirner Sr. (2003); her nephew, Douglas Schirner (2024); and her lifelong best friend, Marilyn Lazar (2009).
She is survived by her brother Richard Guy Schirner Jr. of Pennsylvania; her sister, Joyce Bozarth (Don) of New York; her son, Ronald Luster (Amy) of Newtown, PA; her daughters, Donna Schafer (Gregory) of Fairless Hills, Pa., Shirley Holmes of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Bobbi Johnson (Denny) of Laurel. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
A graveside service will be held on June 21 at Carversville Cemetery in Carversville, Pa..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Shirley’s spirit by donating your time to someone in need.
