Sharon Leigh Ward of Laurel passed away on July 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 18, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Frank and Loyette Brown. She graduated from Milford High School in Baltimore County in the class of 1961 and while she was in school she loved cheerleading, gymnastics, and swimming. After graduation, she earned her bachelor’s degree at the former Salisbury State Teachers College in 1966 now formerly known as Salisbury State University. Sharon retired as an educator in Charles County and Prince George’s County.

She married her best friend and love of her life on Dec. 30, 1993 and they were blessed with 31 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Laurel Library Knitting Club, the Senior Center, and enjoyed golfing.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Robert Edward Ward; daughters, Jennifer Smigal, Stephanie Ward, and Christina Parker (Sam); son, Daniel Smigal; brother, Frank Brown, III; sister, Deena Schrauder (Ronald); 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter Robin Smigal.

A visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel. Rev. Dr. Jack Anderson and Rev. Dr. Howard Backus officiated.
