Sandra “Sandy” Perdue of Laurel, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Sandy was born in Laurel on Oct. 29, 1944, to the late Seth Paul Hastings and Betty G. Hastings. She graduated from Laurel High School, and after graduation, she worked for the E.I. DuPont Company for several years. While working there, she met and married the love of her life, Russell Perdue. Later, she began her 27-year career as a school bus driver, working lastly with Pam Smith.
She was a past member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and Bethel Worship Center. In her younger years, she loved to roller skate and was known for her bowling talents, and received many awards and trophies. Sandy enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to the older country music as well as gospel music, never missed watching an episode of the “Young and the Restless”, and drinking diet Dr. Pepper. Sandy’s most treasured times were spent with her family at her home in the country overlooking the beautiful pasture. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart.
She is survived by her children: Susan Perdue, Tammy Bolen, Tracey Perdue, Shawn Perdue (Kristen), and Stephen Perdue (Amber Bailey); sister, Sharon Hovatter; grandchildren, Bobby Ferrell, Wendy Tyndall, Nikki Smith, Brittany Bolen, Bethany Harbachuk, Seth Perdue, and Kaylah Asplen. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Perdue, brother Wayne Hastings, and his sister Rhonda Brumbley.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 7, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Hannigan-Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Stephen Andrew Hackett will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
