Rosalie Jane Mankins of Laurel passed away peacefully on May 19, 2021 at her home. She was born on Feb. 18, 1930 in Laurel, daughter of the late Jesse and Clara (Elliott) Steen.
Mrs. Mankins tended chickens with her husband for many years and enjoyed life as a homemaker. In her spare time, she liked baking cakes, quilting, watching soap operas and TV game shows, afternoon card games with family and friends, and playing a handmade board game called Pookie. While these things made her happy, nothing could compare to the joy she found working in the garden and the yard, or hot days swinging under the black walnut tree while listening to country music. Mrs. Mankins also loved chicken collectables – anything and everything that had a chicken on it! She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mankins was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Acie T. Mankins, Jr.; her sisters: Eleanor Dukes and Helen White; and her brother Marvin Steen. She is survived by her son, Acie L. Mankins and wife Michele of Laurel; her grandchildren: Aimee Mankins and her husband Gordon Starr of Phoenix, AZ, Brooke Mankins and her boyfriend Zachary Hicks of Kansas City, MO, and Amber Bennett and her husband Keith of Lewes; her great-grandson, Reed Bennett of Lewes; her sister-in-law, Mildred Steen of Laurel; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Yates Funeral Home, a Parsell Family Funeral Home in Seaford, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Mankins’ memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
