Robert “Bobby” Hearne, “Stump” and to most, “Pop”, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital.

He was born March 22, 1948 in Delmar, a son of the late James and Evelyn (Hill) Hearne. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara German and a nephew, Mickey Wilkins.

Bobby grew up in Delmar where he went to Delmar schools and loved sports. He retired after 32 years of service as a custodian for the Laurel School District, where he also drove a school bus for many years. He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and softball, as well as hunting, NASCAR and dirt track racing and was a huge fan of WWE. Church was an important part of Bobby’s life and he was a member of Elliott’s Worship Center in Laurel. Most of all Bobby loved being with his family. He will be remembered as a great and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and to many he was “Pop.”

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Wilson) Hearne; son, Rodney Hearne (Robin); daughter, Kelly Willey (Kenny); grandchildren, Ashley Morris (Colin), Brooks Hearne (Taylor), Brandon Hearne (Madison), Kelsey Willey, Savanah Brown and Chandler Brown; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Beckett, Grayson, Bowen and Lyla; brother, James Hearne (Georgia); and sister, JoAnn Wilkins (Mike). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Elliott’s Worship Center in Laurel, where family and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Pastor John Rogers will officiate.
