Richard “Vernon” Austin passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home in Bridgeville.
Richard was born on May 4, 1933, in Seaford to the late Willis and Violet (Chaffinch) Austin.
Richard was a life member of the Legion Post #6. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in Vietnam. Richard loved stock cars and Nascar, mowing the grass, detailing his cars, and reading western books.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Townsend Austin.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Virginia M. Austin; four children, Gerald Austin, Linda Sandifer, David Austin, and Dale Austin (Dianne); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street in Georgetown.
