Richard P. Bashelor Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on July 17, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on Aug. 1, 1935 in Capitol Heights, Md., the son of the late Earl Bashelor and Annie Dell Daugherty.
Richard served in the United States Navy and the U.S. Marines as a Medic First MAR Div (Reinf) FMF, Camp Pendleton, Ca. Richard carried two seabags, FMF, one for the U.S. Navy and one for the Marines. He was awarded a Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, and a Navy Occupational Service Medal with Clasp. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine Bashelor; son, Richard P. Bashelor Jr. of Texas; daughters, Karen Dayton (Fulton) of Texas, Earlene Bashelor Mayhorn of Cambridge; bonus daughter, Christine Jones (Cory) of Bridgeville; and sisters, Caroline Bell and Renee Matlock, both of Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Bashelor, James Bashelor, and Daniel Bashelor, and sisters, Ann Petit, Libby Mason, and JoAnn Bashelor.
Richard was an active member of Crossroad Community Church of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28 at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown. Immediately following services in church, interment will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
