Raymond Faulkner Vincent passed away on Feb. 4, 2024 at Country Rest Home in Greenwood.
Mr. Vincent was born Dec. 1, 1931, the son of the late George B. Vincent, Jr. and Jane Faulkner Vincent. He was born in Pennsylvania. When he was six years old his parents returned to Delaware and resided in Andrewville. As a teenager his family moved to Farmington. He attended the Farmington School through six grades, then entered the Greenwood School for his remaining school years, graduating in 1950. He was a star basketball player and also played baseball. He played baseball for Farmington and Harrington town teams after his high school years.
After graduation from high school, he was employed by the DuPont Co. of Seaford, later leaving to work full time on the family farm. On Feb. 14, 1953, he married his wife of 70 years, Winifred (Callaway) Vincent.
Mr. Vincent worked for the Demco Company of Milford before being drafted into the Army in 1955. He did basic training at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Bliss, TX. He was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in California, finishing his time in service working on B52s in Anti-Aircraft. He traveled throughout California playing baseball for the Base.
After returning from service, he was approached by the Greenwood School Board and offered the position of school custodian. He accepted and advanced to Chief Custodian. He retired from the Woodbridge School District after 32 years of service in 1989. He then worked five years in maintenance for UPS and continued farming. Mr. Vincent was employed by the Delaware State Fair for over 50 years during Fair week. He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534 since 1975 and was affiliated with Chaplains Chapel U.M. Church.
Mr. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Donald, James, Kenneth Lee and sister Janet Mullins.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred; daughters Beverly Jones (Larry) of Milford and Renee Mills (Greg) of Felton; granddaughter Kelly Jones Nelson (Johnny) of Charleston, SC and sister Helen Ann Zoch (John) of Columbia, SC.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home-Fleischauer Chapel in Greenwood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood.
