Ralph Edward “Ed” Elliott of Seaford passed away on Monday, Feb. 12.

He was born in Verona, Pa., son of the late Rachel Ann (Jolly) and Ralph Edward Elliott, Sr. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytech Institute in 1951 and spent most of his career working as a chemical engineer for Calgon (which later became a subsidiary of Merck). Before graduating from RPI, he was married to Ann Louise Bierly of Endwell, NY. They had 69 years together before her passing in January 2021.

Together, Ed and Ann lived in several places in New York and Pennsylvania before settling outside of Pittsburgh, PA and raising four children. After the last child left the nest, Ed and Ann moved to Scottsdale, AZ and enjoyed 20 years of hiking, exploring, and working as docents at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens. They spent the last twenty years in Delaware living in Millsboro and then at the Manor House in Seaford. Ed was a devoted husband, caring for his wife during her journey through dementia.

Ed enjoyed many hobbies and activities: woodworking, gardening, music, traveling, hiking and exploring Arizona, sudoku, and computer solitaire. He was active in the Methodist Church. He was a boy scout leader when his sons were growing up and camping was the frequent family vacation when all the children were young.

Ed is survived by his children Dave (Connie) Elliott of Peyton, CO; Dan (Carol) Elliott of West Lafayette, IN; Jim (Nancy) Elliott of Angier, NC; and Kathy (Derb) Hall of Millsboro; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A private family gathering is planned for a later date.
