Tidewater Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Associates, P.A., welcomes Dr. Hannah Porter, PT, DPT, this month as a new physical therapist in the Seaford, Delaware, and Kent Island, Maryland, locations. It was while Dr. Porter was a rehabilitation aide with Tidewater some time ago that she got interested in physical therapy as a career.

Porter grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. She graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in biology, then got her doctorate degree in physical therapy from Mary Baldwin University in Virginia. She has an extensive background in health care settings, most recently in the Kent Island and Annapolis area in Maryland. She also attended clinical rotations in Delaware in Seaford, Georgetown and Milford, as well as in Virginia.

“What I enjoy most is helping patients get from baseline to their goals, getting back to what they want to do,” Porter said. One of her specialties, and her passion in physical therapy, is women’s health, particularly pelvic health, which includes treatment of incontinence and pelvic pain. “Helping patients live a more fulfilling life is really rewarding,” she said. She hopes to start a women’s health program at Tidewater.

Founded in Easton, Md. nearly 40 years ago by Dr. W. James Downs Jr., PT, DSc, ECS, Tidewater Physical Therapy has expanded to 12 locations across Delmarva. Tidewater is a widely recognized, highly accredited physical therapy firm known for effective outcomes, clinical quality, and exceptional customer service.

The Tidewater team verifies all insurances and obtains authorization if required, before the first visit, so patients know what their financial responsibility will be.

Dr. Craig Joachimowski, DPT, ECS, OCS, CHT, is the current clinical director of the Seaford clinic. He is one of 200 therapists in the country with certification in Clinical Electrophysiologic Physical Therapy, which allows him to perform electromyography/nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS) to identify peripheral nerve pathologies including carpal tunnel syndrome. He also specializes in and is certified as a hand therapist and treats all orthopedic and neurological therapy conditions.

Joachimowski said, “Tidewater is very pleased to welcome Dr. Porter to our team. We look forward to the months ahead, and with her help, introducing a pelvic program to the area to serve our community in a different capacity.”
