Phoebe Jane Mikalaski, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Phoebe was born on Jan. 13, 1938, in Hillsboro, Va., to George and Arbutus Crim. She was a 1955 graduate of Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, Va.
After high school, she was recruited by the federal government to work in Washington, D.C., where she met the love of her life and future husband. She married Milton Mikalaski on Sept. 19, 1959. Phoebe dedicated 33 years to her career in the federal government and retired in December 1998 as a management analyst for the Agriculture Standards and Procedures Branch.
Phoebe took time away from work to be a devoted stay at home mother to her two children, Daniel and Lisa, returning to her career once they reached their teenage years. During that time, she also served as a substitute teacher in local elementary schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Arbutus Crim; her brother, Ted Crim; and her sister, Ardeth Moler.
Phoebe is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Milton Mikalaski; her children, Daniel Mikalaski and Lisa Keller (Bill Keller); and her four grandchildren, Kyle Keller, Kristen Keller, Josh Keller, and Alexa Mikalaski, along with several nieces and nephews.
Phoebe loved to travel and delighted in visiting national parks, taking ocean and river cruises, spending time at the beach, and most of all, being with her family, which was the true joy of her life. Her friends were dear to her heart, and she treasured the many memories made through time spent together and traveling.
Phoebe will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with people, and family was always at the center of everything she did. She lived her life with love, compassion, and grace.
