Founded in 1952 in Salisbury, Maryland, Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates has provided exceptional orthopaedic care to the Delmarva community for more than 70 years. “We are recognized as one of the premier orthopaedic groups on the Eastern Shore,” said Francesca Kirk, director of Strategic Planning and Business Development.

Orthopaedic surgery in the 21st century is a highly technological field. In the past, a single orthopaedic surgeon would treat every condition that involved the musculoskeletal system — bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. Times have changed.

Advances in treatment options and in orthopaedic science have forced the specialization of orthopaedic surgeons. Several studies have confirmed that operative outcomes are improved when performed by surgeons who perform a high volume of that particular procedure. At Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates, each orthopaedist focuses his or her expertise on a particular facet of surgery and performs complex surgery on a frequent basis. Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates has 13 — soon to be 14 — orthopaedic surgeons. Most are fellowship-trained. The team also includes 17 physician’s assistants/nurse practitioners.

Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates offers the latest surgical as well as nonsurgical treatment options for a full spectrum of sub-specialties, from sports medicine, joint replacement, joint preservation, orthopaedic trauma, as well as shoulder, foot and ankle, hand and wrist, hip and knee.

Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates has four offices — in Salisbury and Ocean Pines, Maryland, and in Millsboro and Seaford, Delaware — in addition to physical therapy departments in Ocean Pines and Salisbury and an ambulatory surgery center in Salisbury. The practice also provides 24/7 orthopaedic trauma call at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.

The state-of-the-art surgery center is set up solely for orthopaedic procedures, which makes a difference to patients, Kirk explained. “It provides our patients the same high-level care found at most respected academic centers, right here at home,” she said.

The surgery center offers the most advanced surgical techniques and technologies, including the Mako Robotic- Arm Assisted Technology. Used in knee replacements, for example, the Mako system helps prevent a surgeon from moving outside pre-defined boundaries, making possible a more accurate placement and alignment of your implant.

Michal Klek, M.D., is the latest surgeon to join Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates. After earning his doctorate from SUNY Upstate Medical University College Of Medicine in 2017, Klek completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and, most recently, a Geisinger- Northeast Adult Reconstruction Fellowship in Danville.

Klek’s focus is on total joint reconstruction including Mako robotic anterior hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, as well as complex revisions of failed hip and knee replacements. Coming in October, he will serve out of Millsboro and Seaford.

Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates offers same-day or next day appointments and accepts most insurance, including Workers’ Comp and auto.

Kirk concluded, “Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates values the intimacy of a small town atmosphere. Our patients are our friends and neighbors, not just procedures. Learn more about who we are, what we do, and the Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates difference. Experience matters.”
