This April Morning Star Publications, publishers of the weekly Seaford and Laurel Star newspapers and the monthly Salisbury Star and MS Business Report publications, will celebrate its 25th anniversary next month.
Morning Star Publications first published the weekly Seaford Star newspaper, which covers the communities of Seaford, Blades, Bridgeville, Greenwood, and Federalsburg, in April of 1996. In August, the Laurel Star, covering Laurel, Delmar, Bethel, and Sharptown, was started. The following year, MSP started the Business Report, which is now a glossy magazine covering Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware, and starting next month, Wicomico County.
Morning Star Publications has been in Wicomico since 1997, starting with the Business Journal print publication, which was done in conjunction with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce. More recently, MSP published the Salisbury Star.
The focus of the Seaford and Laurel Stars is community news. The staff and owners of the papers live and work in western Sussex and are involved with local organizations, including chambers of commerce such as the Delmar Chamber of Commerce.
Morning Star Publications is a member of the Delmar, Salisbury, Fruitland, Western Sussex, Milford, Millsboro, Georgetown, Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth, and Central Delaware chambers of commerce.
Staff members and the papers’ owners have also served on the local chambers’ boards as well as with other community organizations.
The Stars and staff members have won multiple Maryland, Delaware, D.C. (MDDC) advertising and editorial contest awards for their work.
The April 29 issue of the Seaford and Laurel Star will feature a special anniversary section, looking back at the papers’ 25 years of community service. Local businesses and readers are invited to join MSP in marking this special anniversary in this edition.
Also, starting in April, the Business Report will cover Wicomico County, in addition to Kent and Sussex, as the two monthly publications (the Business Report and the Salisbury Star) merge.
In addition to producing weekly newspapers and monthly business publications, MSP also produces special books and magazines, such as the Wedding Planner, Progress, high school sports books, Graduation, Salute to Ag, Home Improvement, Holiday Gift Guide, and a variety of books and sections for area festivals. Morning Star also publishes visitors guides for the Western Sussex (formerly the Seaford and Laurel chambers), Millsboro, and Georgetown Chambers of Commerce.
