Mary L. Kennedy of Laurel passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Mary was born on April 19, 1935 in Long Branch, New Jersey to John Massey Sr. and Helen Lewis Massey. Mary worked many jobs including her latest which she retired as a foster grandparent at Paul Laurence Dunbar working with the kindergarten. The impact she made with each and every one of them over the years was amazing.
Mary is survived by granddaughters Tanya Smith (Jamie), Chrystal Walls (Terry), and Kimberley Kennedy; eight great-grandchildren: Jason Kennedy, whom she thought of as her own (Kiley), Leslie T. Kennedy (Kelsey), Catera Kennedy (Brian), Joshua Kennedy, Christopher Kennedy, Jamie Smith Jr., Zachary Kennedy, and Riley Smith; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Carroll (Carl) Kennedy, and sons Leslie D. Kennedy, and K. Barry Kennedy.
A memorial service will be held on July 26, 2021 at Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Seaford, DE at noon, preceded by a visitation from 11 to 12. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.
