Marlene W. Hamilton was born in Salisbury and grew up in Laurel. She graduated from Laurel High School – Class of 1953. After graduation, she earned a degree in education from Salisbury State College in Salisbury. She taught at Georgetown Elementary for 30 years. Marlene primarily taught second and third grade, but at the end of her career, she taught remedial English and Math. 

She was devoted to her family and enjoyed doing many activities with them. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and needlework. Marlene was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown for over 40 years and participated in several outreach ministries during that time with her friends. She also was an active member of Midland Grange of Georgetown for many years. During her final years she attended and enjoyed the services of Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Marian Warrington; her first husband of 20 years, John S. Rogers; her second husband of 20 years, Walter L. Hamilton; her brother Donald J. Warrington, and a step-son Lee Hamilton (Doris). She is survived by her daughter Kristine Blackman (Garlon) of Easley, South Carolina; step-son Kenny Rogers of Georgetown; step-daughter Karen Henderson (Dale) of Titusville, Pa.; step-son Wayne Hamilton (Patti) of Georgetown; sister Beverly Smith of Seaford; beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several “adopted” family members; many close friends; and special caregivers Pat Holliday and Gwen Greenwald. 

A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 1-2 p.m. at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Carey’s Cemetery in Millsboro.
