Margaret went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret (Peggy) was born to Margaret and Paul Brenner on June 6, 1933. She grew up in Bridgeville, attending Bridgeville High School, where she excelled at basketball and other sports and was also a cheerleader. After graduating from high school, she went on to the University of Delaware, where she studied elementary education. While there she met B. Bradford Barnes, Jr. and soon after they both graduated in 1955, they were married.

She and Brad moved from Texas to New Jersey and finally relocated to Bridgeville where they settled and raised their family. While her children were young, most of her activities were focused on volunteering at the Bridgeville Public Library and singing in the chancel choir at Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, where she had been a member since childhood. She returned to teaching at Greenwood Elementary School, where she taught third grade. After losing Brad in 1987, she continued teaching until her retirement in 1994.

After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her “pals” to many interesting places throughout the United States.  In 1995, she rekindled a friendship from college and eventually married James (Jim) Moneymaker. The two ultimately found that they enjoyed the beach lifestyle and permanently moved to Bethany Beach, where they lived for numerous years prior to a move to assisted living.

Margaret is survived by her sister Ann Brenner of Seaford, daughters Mitzie Moore (Chip) of Concord, North Carolina, Laurie Collender (Mark) of Middletown, and JoAnna Ventresca (Victor) of Centreville, and her grandchildren Dennison Moore of Johnson City, Tennessee, Elizabeth Brenner Moore of Concord, North Carolina, and many other extended family members.

Her family would like to extend gratitude to Brandywine Senior Living for their loving care of Margaret over the past few years, and to Holisticare Hospice, for their services and assistance during her illness.

Services to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, April 6 at Union Methodist Church, 2 N. Laws St. Bridgeville, DE 19933. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at noon. A burial will take place following the service at Bridgeville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations in Margaret’s memory be sent to the Bridgeville Public Library, 600 South Cannon Street, Bridgeville, Delaware 19933 or to Holisticare Hospice, 985 Old Eagle School Road, Suite 504, Wayne, PA 19087.
