LaVerne Elsie Reed, a resident of the Manor House in Seaford, passed away on Jan. 19, 2021. LaVerne was born May 2, 1924 in Linthicum, Md. to Henry and Elsie Werner. She graduated from Maryland State Teachers College and earned an advanced degree from Columbia University. LaVerne worked in the Baltimore City Public Schools system for 31 years as a teacher and administrator. Her passion for education enabled her to impact the lives of many children.

LaVerne met the love of her life, Clyde. They married on July 25, 1957 and honeymooned in Ocean City. They enjoyed each other’s company tremendously during their 63 years of marriage. When they were ready to become parents, they adopted two young children who needed the love of a dad and mom. LaVerne was a devoted mother.

At retirement, Clyde and LaVerne moved to Florida where they enjoyed many years filled with travel and adventure. Strong in faith, they both served their community by teaching young children the love of the Lord.

LaVerne is survived by her devoted husband, Clyde. She is also survived by her children, Robert Reed of Holladay, Tenn., and Cindy Blackwell of Seaford. Her grandchildren, Troy Reed, Miriam Sullivan, Samuel Beard and Jack Blackwell will cherish memories of her in their hearts.

Due to COVID-19, Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford will be providing a memorial service to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of LaVerne may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org.
