Kenneth Shahan passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1923 in Magnolia, the son of Dewey and Anna Shahan. After serving in the military as an aircraft armorer from 1943-1946, including in World War II, Kenneth had a successful career at International Playtex, Inc., where he worked the night shift for 28 years, while raising his family in Little Heaven/Frederica, with his wife of 53 years, Nila. Affectionately called “Kenny” by his coworkers, he was known for being helpful, dependable, and thorough.

For the last 10 years, Kenneth lived next door to his son, Michael, and enjoyed going to breakfast at Pizza King nearly every day, and traveling with him on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to pick up inventory for Tyndall’s Casual Furniture, and assisting with deliveries to customers all over the Delmarva Peninsula. Kenneth was also a fan of boxing, NASCAR, gardening, and birdwatching.

He is survived by his son Michael (Vonda) Shahan of Seaford, and daughter Theresa Shahan of Aiken, South Carolina; grandchildren: Beth (Michael) Rushe of Dover, Courtney (Brock) Roman of Fredericksburg, Va., Chad Shahan and his partner Cole Chance of Washington, D.C., and Brittany (Rick) Stoakley of Delmar; and four great-grandchildren: Owen and Elle Rushe and Taryn and Lane Roman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Nila, his brother Leon, his elder son, Joseph, and his son in law Henry Morton. A private service will be held by the family this week.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SPCA (22918 DuPont Boulevard Georgetown, DE 19947) or to Corporal Keith Heacook’s 12-year-old son (GiveSendGo.com/Keith).
