We mourn the passing of Kenneth John Hesterberg, who passed on Jan. 2, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 13, 1934, in Baltimore, Md., the only child of Laura Ogle Hesterberg and Samuel J Hesterberg. He served two years in the U.S. Army prior to working for Standard Oil, and subsequently worked as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. During his time with the scouts, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Framingham State University. Throughout the years, he remained an active volunteer scout leader, boater, and outdoor enthusiast. In later years, he was active as a member and course instructor in the United States Power Squadron.

He began writing poetry at age 80 and published 23 books in the series “Voices and Venues in Verse”, where he explored lessons learned of life, friendship, family, and his passion for sailing and the Chesapeake Bay. His words touched many and reflected the wisdom and joy he brought to all who knew him. Throughout his life, Ken was known for his dedication to serving others, his love of learning, and his generous spirit as a mentor to countless young people.

He leaves his son Dr. Paul E., and daughter-in-law, Diane J., and granddaughters, Grace C. and Evelyn R. Hesterberg of Winchester, MA. He is predeceased by Ruth Weller Hesterberg, his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, and son Jay Steven Hesterberg.

Ken will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many whose lives he enriched through his kindness and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.

Funeral services will be held at Loudon Park Funeral Home, 3620 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, Md, on Saturday Feb, 21, at noon in the Funeral Home Chapel. Relatives and friends are also invited to a Memorial Service on Thursday Feb, 19, from 1-3 at the Nanticoke Senior Center Ballroom in Seaford.
