June W. James of Laurel went from this world to a better place on Dec. 12, 2024. Born June 29, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Leland and Helen Mitchell Warrington.

June liked to make quilts, bake, cook, entertain and have dinners with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, putting puzzles together, and a host of other things that interested her. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1958. June was married to the late Richard G. James also in 1958. She was active in alumni activities and looked forward to getting together with her classmates at luncheons and during visits. June was a devoted housewife and mother, who worked alongside her family on the family farm. Richard, her husband, was a farmer who also served in the Delaware National Guard. He retired from the Guard after 34 years of service and was awarded the rank of State Brigadier General.

She was also active in her local community holding positions at the churches she attended throughout her life, as a beautician working out of her home, working at O’Neal’s Antique Store for her sister, and participating in many special events as a cake decorator with her business “Cakes by June.” 

June’s family included four children, Janice James-Webb (Jeff), Jay James (Pam) of Laurel, Jed James (Yu Ling) of Georgetown and Jo Adams (Michael) of Newark. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with another expected in February. She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Elliott; twin brother, Jerry (Carol) Warrington; and sister Shirley (Louis) O’Neal and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband and parents, brother Edgar and sister-in-law Louise (nee Messick) Warrington and her sister Eleanor and brother-in-law Edwin Henry and nephew, Harrison Elliott. 

A private viewing will be held at Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel. A public graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 at Odd Fellows Cemetery on West Street in Laurel. Harold Carmean will officiate.
