Joseph Paul Smith of Laurel passed away on April 28, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury. Born in Federalsburg, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Smith and Helen Swift Smith. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Cuban Crisis. He worked for the E.I. DuPont company for many years and retired from the powerhouse division. He was the past Master of the Odd Fellows Lodge 27 in Laurel and a longtime member. His hobbies included reading, gardening, planting flowers and bowling.
Paul is survived by his brothers; Charles M. Smith, Sr. of Laurel and Wilmir L. Smith of Laurel; sister, Brenda Anderson and her husband Walter of Dover; several nieces and nephews also survive him. A walk through viewing was held on Wednesday, May 5 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel. A funeral service was held at the funeral home by invitation. Reverend Howard Travers officiated. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel. Contributions may be made in Mr. Smith’s memory to the Odd Fellows Lodge 27, P.O. Box 146, Laurel, Delaware 19956. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
