John Wilson Horstman of Delmar passed away at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born at home in Laurel on June 17, 1934, he was the son of the late John Melvin and Flossie Ellen Foskey Horstman.

As a young man, Wilson, as he was best known, began his career as an electrician. He worked for Horn Electric, which later became Nickle Electric, where he remained for over 20 years. He then took a job with the Seaford School District in custodial maintenance continuing with his electrical background for over 15 years retiring in 1996. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War when he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Later, after the Korean War, Wilson served a term in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Bethany Community Church in Laurel.

 In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by wife, Joyce June Horstman; a daughter, Robin Horstman; and two brothers, Ralph Foskey and Lewis Horstman. Mr. Horstman is survived by his wife, the former Ramona R. Varner, whom he married in June 2004; three sons: John W., Jr., Robert and Kenneth Horstman, two step-sons: Glenn and Troyer Fisher, a daughter: Fern Kester, a sister: Patricia Alexander, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside Services, with military honors, will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 9th Street in Laurel on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. Pastor Brent L. Smith will officiate. Memorial contributions in Mr. Horstman’s name may be made to Bethany Community Church, 28015 Kaye Road, Laurel, DE 19956. The Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, DE 19956 is serving the Horstman family.
