Joanna Lee King of Bridgeville passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital after a hard-fought battle against COVID-19. She was born in Seaford on May 18, 1943, daughter of the late Fred and Alice Beauchamp Rawlins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter King, in 2004; her brother, Richard Rawlins; and her daughter-in-law, Pamela King.
Joanna was a graduate of Seaford High School. She worked for more than 30 years as a Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant at the Seaford Genesis Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, where she provided loving care for her patients and formed many close and meaningful friendships with her co-workers, who referred to her as the “Information Center” at Genesis.
Joanna had a devout faith in God, a strong testimonial, and served as an Elder in her church. Most of all, her loving devotion to her family was foremost in her life. She was always one to help others, and to know her was to have a lifelong friend. Her family and friends joked that she was either related to or knew everyone in Sussex County. Joanna had a special fondness for butterflies, flowers, collecting family pictures and news clippings, watching classic movies, and the occasional apple dumpling. She was truly one of the most amazing people and will leave an everlasting legacy of faithfulness and love for her family and friends.
She cherished and is survived by her four children: Virginia L. Chandler (Greg) of Bridgeville, Peter N. King, Jr. of Bridgeville; James L. King (Kristi) of Seaford; and Aaron S. King (Dena) of Seaford; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-grandson; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel in Georgetown. Burial followed the services at Cokesbury Cemetery in Georgetown.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
