Joan Crosby of Laurel passed away at her home on Nov. 15 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Laurel, she was the daughter of the late Frank Nichols and Lena Mae Hitchens Nichols.

Joan was retired as a secretary for the veterinary clinic in Fort Hood in Texas and also as a bookkeeper for Sears. Joan was a graduate of Laurel High School and enjoyed eating lunch each month with her classmates. She was a member of Portsville United Methodist Church.

Joan is survived by her son, Kevin Crosby of Delmar; daughter, Karen Barrell and her husband William of Laurel; sister, Betty Harrison of Millsboro; granddaughter, Amanda Cline and her husband Eric; great-grandchildren, Arianna and Amelia Cline; she loved her dogs dearly and is survived by her cat Fiona “FiFi”. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Nichols, Frances Nichols, Evelyn Brinsfield and Lou Etta Berg. A graveside service was held on Monday, Nov. 23 at Portsville United Methodist Church in Laurel. Pastor Joe LeCates officiated. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
