Janet Marie Nichols of Delmar passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1937 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Otis Vernon Taylor and Pauline Elizabeth (Dennis) Taylor.
Janet graduated from Wicomico Sr. High School with the class of 1955. Following her high school graduation, she attended the Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing. She spent several years raising her family, then worked as a sales associate for Sears & Roebuck in Salisbury, a career that spanned 20 years.
Janet loved word search puzzles, the beach and cherished memories made traveling with her family. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many.
She is survived by her loving children, Orville Lee Nichols, Jr. (Steve), Michael Nichols (Cindy), and Anita Nichols (Don); a special daughter-in-law, Penny Nichols; grandchildren Nicole Nichols Mezick (Kevin), Travis Nichols (Talor) and Darren Nichols (Gayle); great-grandchildren, Damon, Braxton and Grayson; a sister, Joyce Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 56 years, Orville Lee Nichols, Sr.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Delmar.
