Annual event to celebrate America 250

This year’s Stars and Stripes event, to take place Saturday, June 27 with a June 28 rain date, will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce and the town of Millsboro are partnering for the celebration.

“It’s going to be an exciting event,” said Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nadine Timpanero.

Main Street will close on the day of the event, with downtown activities taking place along the street from 2-5 p.m. A parade will be held at 4 p.m.

There will also be a Touch a Truck for kids and live music. Vendors will be set up throughout the day and store owners will have tables outside their businesses. The event will have a lot of foot traffic and will include museum tours and readings at the Millsboro Library.

“It should be really great for the store owners,” Timpanero said.

Ballpark activities at the Millsboro Little League complex will take place from 5-9 p.m. Among the attractions are: Kids Zone featuring inflatables, faceprinting and games ($10 wristband for ages 12 and under), food trucks, local vendors, a DJ, and a photo booth. The fireworks show will begin at dusk.

A free shuttle, courtesy of Dutton Bus Service, will run from 1 p.m. until the conclusion of the fireworks. The shuttle will loop between Plantation Lakes North Shore Community Center, Plantation Lakes at The Landing, Plantation Lakes on Bramble Drive, 395 Old Landing Road (parking lot), 499 Mitchell Street (parking lot), and Millsboro Bowling Lots (parking lot) with drop-off downtown at the Millsboro Police Department.
