The Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce is an organization focused on community involvement. We are not a political organization and do not endorse political candidates.
Our chamber holds three main events each year: In the spring, we have our Delmar Citizen of the Year Award Banquet. Nominations are accepted through a special website set up for the nominating process. The nominations are usually accepted starting in late January and the process is open for a few weeks. For this award, the committee looks for a person who has been a participant in making Delmar a better place, through their actions and volunteerism over a period of years, not necessarily a “good Samaritan” who did a great thing. While we think good samaritans are important, that’s just not what this award is for. The award banquet consists of a dinner at the Delmar VFW (catered) along with the presentations from the town of Delmar and elected officials throughout Maryland and Delaware to the award recipient. Ticket sales are open as soon as we have a date for the banquet.
On the first Saturday in June, we hold our Delmarva’s Day in the Park Festival. The festival consists of food, craft independent distributors (Mary Kay, Avon, etc.), informational vendors and artisan vendors. We also have live entertainment, games, attractions, door prize drawings, raffles and more. It’s a great day for the entire family to come out to the park and just enjoy the day. The kids love this event, especially when we offer the all-day wrist bands for the attractions, because they can do the attractions all day long for one price. We have always tried to keep the cost down for the kids too and our ticket prices are still 50 cents a ticket. While the attractions take more than one ticket, it still keeps it affordable for most.
Then we have the game booths, which most of the games only require one ticket (50 cents) and when you win playing the game, we award tokens to the winner, which can be exchanged for prizes at our prize booth. Vendor applications are usually ready in mid-April.
Our third annual event is the Delmar Christmas Parade. The parade is held on the first Saturday in December. Participation in the parade is free, as long as there is an application on file. The deadline for entries is usually one week before the parade, which allows us time to organize the entries.
Our chamber is a small one and we’d like to grow. Our dues are only $80 a year (Jan-Dec). As a member, you’re actively involved in the community, through the chamber and we have multiple affordable advertising opportunities for our members. Each member receives a membership plaque to display, letting the community know they are a reputable business and they’re involved in giving back to the community.
Our meetings are open to the public and are held on the third Tuesday of each month, excluding August and December.
We don’t hold a general membership meeting those two months. Our meetings are casual, so no need to come in your Sunday best. Our meetings start at 7 p.m. and are usually held in the training room at Delmar Police Department, on Pennsylvania Avenue, Delmar, Md. There are times we may move the meeting location and we’ll put a notice out to our members ahead of time and post on our social media.
We encourage people to follow us on Facebook by searching Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce. This is the main place information is posted on our events. We also regularly share posts from our chamber member businesses and other community organizations. Our website: http://delmar-chamberofcommerce.com.
Our chamber is always looking for new members, but we’re always looking for volunteers as well. You can reach us by email at in*********@*****st.net. You can call our voicemail line at 302-846-3336 too, but understand it is a voicemail line and not a live line. The quickest way to get a response is always by sending us an email.
Thank you to the businesses who are members of the chamber and to the community for supporting our chamber and our events.
