Fred B. “Junior” Smith, Jr. of Blades passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 21, surrounded by family. His father and mother, Fred B. Smith, Sr. and Hilda Smith, brother, Arnold Smith, of Georgetown, and two sisters, Betty Browning, of California and Virginia Higgins, of Seaford, precede him in death. Five children, Fred B. Smith, III, Joyce Mears, Freda Miller, Michael Smith and Steven Smith, all of Seaford, also precede him in death.

He is survived by his partner of 48 years, Louise Powell, a brother, Wayne Smith, and four children, Virginia “Diane” Harrington (Rip Lloyd), Debra “Debbie” Waldridge, Mark Smith (Deanna Smith), and Scott Smith, all of Seaford, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Early in his career, Fred worked in a timber yard. The Seaford Ice Plant later employed him, where he retired. After retirement, he continued to work cutting and clearing trees from area properties. He was an avid hunter and owned a group of prize hunting dogs. In his later years, Fred and Louise spent many days sitting in the yard of their Blades home, waving and greeting motorists traveling along Market Street.

A memorial service for friends and family is planned for a later date.
