Fay A. Carney passed away in the company of loved ones on July 27, 2026. Born on Sept. 7, 1932, in Johnstown, Pa., she moved to Seaford in 1965, where she made her home and became a beloved member of the community.

On May 24, 1952, Fay married the love of her life, Donald R. “Don” Carney. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage before Don’s passing. Their home was a place of warmth, laughter, and unwavering love, reflecting Fay’s generous spirit and gift for hospitality. Her home and heart were always open to others, making everyone feel welcome.

Fay was the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie Blackford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Don.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Rick Carney and his wife, Denise; her granddaughters, Sarah Messick and Melanie Cobo (Michael); seven cherished great-grandchildren (Evan, Lily, Emma, Ava, Grace, Aubree, and Richard); extended family members, neighbors, and dear friends.

A faithful congregant and former board member of First Baptist Church of Seaford, Fay lived out her Christian faith through humble service and genuine compassion for others. She frequently opened her home to missionary families and visiting college students and served for many years as the nursery coordinator and as a VBS volunteer. She served as a board member of the former Seaford Christian Academy and was deeply committed to supporting Christian education. Fay also had a special love for animals and found great joy in caring for them throughout her life. She made frequent contributions to animal advocacy groups and was known to have a menagerie of animal visitors at her home.

For many years, Fay was employed at Peebles Department Store, and upon her retirement worked as a census worker. She also volunteered her time going door-to door to collect for charities, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the March of Dimes, and the American Lung Association.

Above all, Fay will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor, and friend. Her life was marked by faith, service, generosity, and a sincere love for people. Her legacy will continue to live on in the many lives she touched through her kindness, hospitality, and steadfast example of Christian love.

A viewing will be held on Monday, Aug. 10 beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at noon at First Baptist Church of Seaford, 10016 Concord Road, Seaford, Delaware. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Seaford or Alley Cat Allies, organizations that reflected Fay’s enduring faith and compassion for animals.
