Earl Jennings Jefferson, Sr. passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Harry and Nellie Hitchens Jefferson.

He attended Sycamore and Laurel High School. Afterwards, he began his lifelong career as a carpenter and mason. After having worked for several area contractors, Earl retired in 1989. He liked to hunt, play baseball and shuffle board. He was a member of the Laurel Beagle Club, NRA and Laurel American Legion Post #19. Earl had also served in the Army National Guard. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee A. Northam, and a brother, Alvin Jefferson.

Survivors include his wife Aileen Frances Jefferson; a daughter, Robin Griffith – Lank (Lawrence); a son, Jay Jefferson (Joyce); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws; and several nephews and nieces.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Laurel Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pastor Dave Seymour officiated.
