Dr. Mitchell Monroe Pote, former resident of Seaford, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Indianapolis, IN.

Mr. Pote was born on June 12, 1957, in Seaford, the eldest son of Ann E. Pote and James E. Pote. He graduated from Seaford High School in 1975 and graduated with honors from the University of Delaware in 1979, double majoring in Political Science and International Relations. Mr. Pote earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in both disciplines at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Pote taught these subjects at seven different colleges or universities until 1997, when he earned his J.D. at the Indiana University School of Law. He was a Board Member of the Indiana Law Review and a recipient of multiple Alumni Association Scholarships.

Mr. Pote was employed by Wilson Kehoe & Winningham and Hume Smith Geddes Green & Simmons before opening his own law practice in Indiana, retiring in 2023. He penned four notable law publications during his career.

Mitchell was an excellent bowler and golfer, winning the 1978 SG&CC Men’s Club Championship at age 21, and he was a fan of all sports. He attended hundreds of live events and watched thousands via Beta, VHS and DVR. He was a regular contract bridge player at the Indianapolis Bridge Center, achieving the ABCL ranking of Diamond Life Master. He shared his expertise by providing formal and informal instruction.

Mitchell is survived by his two younger brothers, David Pote of Seaford and John Alan (Dawn) Pote of Normal, IL, along with several cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Crystal Pote, and by his three beloved cats, Danielle, Smoke and Helen.

Cremation services are being provided by Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN. Celebrations of Life will be held in Indianapolis and in Delaware on dates to be determined later. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Toys for Tots.
