Doris Jane Conaway of Laurel passed away on Oct. 28 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 28, 1940, she is the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine Pusey. Doris graduated from Laurel High School in 1959. She was a devoted member of Laurel Church of Christ, loved traveling, gardening, and was blessed with a genuine love for people. She never met a stranger and adored her friends and family. Doris was a retired bus contractor for 18 years with the Laurel School District; and because of her loving and caring personality she enjoyed all the children she was blessed to meet throughout her career.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ronald Conaway; children, Cathy Simmons, Cindy Kandler, and Kelly Donaway and her husband Shawn; grandchildren, Jessica Dobson and her husband Phil, Brandon Conaway, Rodney Simmons and his wife Nicole, Cory Carpenter, Sara Carpenter, Joshua Donaway and his wife Alexis, Hannah Donaway and Christian Donaway; five great-grandchildren; and a beloved niece Connie Taylor and her husband Phil also survive her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Josephine Waller, Charles Pusey, and Jennings Pusey; and her son-in-law, James Simmons.

The family would like to mention a big “Thank You” to Audrey Parker-Balthaser and to Vitas Hospice. A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Laurel Church of Christ, 1010 South Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956 on Saturday, Nov. 7. A memorial service will follow at the church at 1 p.m. Wayne Mathis will officiate. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Conaway’s memory to St. Jude, 262 Danny Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
