Darlene Kay Hill of Seaford passed away after a long illness on April 9, 2024, in the Seaford Genesis Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Leroy Hill and her sister, Shirley Cobis (John).
Born in Cambridge on Aug. 10, 1935, to William L. Shorter and Evelyn L. Burton Shorter, she started her career in the Seaford School system cafeterias and Kathryn’s restaurant, followed by many years as assistant manager of the F.W. Woolworth store in Seaford.
Darlene was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Seaford prior to her illness. She was fun-loving and enjoyed Bingo, dancing, helping others and spending time with her family.
Darlene is survived by sons Granville Ritchie Woodland, Jr. (Karen) and James K. Woodland (Denise); stepsons LeRoy Hill, Jr. (Linda) and Garry Hill; stepdaughter Vicki Hill McCarthy (Jim); 11 grandchildren/step-grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren/step-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford on Sunday, April 14. A service was held on Monday, April 15 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
