Clark W. Benson of Delmar, Del., passed away peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Born on Jan. 9, 1955, Clark was the son of the late John and Perny (Howard) Benson. He was a beloved husband, father, poppy, brother, uncle and friend to so many.

A proud graduate of the Laurel High School class of ‘73, Clark developed a passion for cars in his teens, a love that lasted throughout his lifetime. He dedicated many years of his life as an automotive enthusiast, including at the Delmar U.S. 13 Dragway and Delaware International Speedway, as well as through a vast array of his own vehicles.

Throughout his career, he worked as an installer for Delmarva Aluminum for over 25 years, followed by a brief stint at DuPont and installing satellite dishes for Skywatch. Eventually, Clark embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey, founding Clark W. Benson, LLC, where he specialized in windows, doors, and porches. He took great pride in his work and cherished the time spent collaborating with his son, Tyler.

As a selfless individual, Clark lived to help others and was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand. He served on the board of Elliott Worship Center in Laurel for several years, nurturing his spiritual community. His daily routine included breakfast at Pizza King in Laurel, where he will be sorely missed by his friends, and he often enjoyed lunch at various local eateries, including South Fork Deli, Delmar Pizza, Milanos, and, of course, Pizza King.

Clark will be remembered for his warm smile, wonderful sense of humor, and deep love for people-especially for his wife and best friend, Debra “Deby” S. Benson; his children Tyler Benson and wife, Amber; Seth Benson; and Sara Walls and husband, Travis; his beloved grandchildren Hanna, Zachary, Colt and Cora; his siblings J. Warren Benson (Carol), Brenda Brunner (Danny), Sherri Haney (Dick), and Shelly Whaley (Kevin); his sister-in-law, Jo Adkins and brother-in-law, Howard Spencer, Jr.; his former wife and mother to his sons, Gail Benson; and many nieces and nephews. His unmatched devotion to family extended to his extended family and friends, all of whom will attest to the impact he had on their lives.

A passionate traveler and camper, Clark created many cherished memories at Treasure Beach in Fenwick and enjoyed countless road trips on his Gold Wing motorcycle with Deby as a past member of GWRRA.

Funeral services were held at Elliott Worship Center, on Wednesday Aug. 6. Interment will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to help establish a scholarship fund in Clark’s memory, to benefit a student wishing to attend trade school. Contributions can be sent, in care of Tyler Benson, 36808 St. George Road Delmar, DE 19940. Contributions in Clark’s memory can also be sent to Elliott Worship Center, 17237 Phillips Hill Road, Laurel, Delaware, 19956. His legacy of kindness and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
