Charles Eugene “Bud” McCurdy of Kennett Square, Pa., passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025.
Born on Febr. 18, 1933, in West Conshohocken, PA, Bud grew up in Conshohocken and began working at age eight, selling papers on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack. He was an avid athlete and swimmer, and earned a scholarship to Ursinus College, where he studied chemistry, played basketball, and met his wife of 70 years, Jeanne McIlhenny.
Bud began his career as a research chemist at DuPont in Seaford, contributing to innovations in nylon manufacturing. He rose to the level of Vice President at DuPont headquarters in Wilmington and later traveled globally as a consultant. He found his greatest fulfillment in mentoring others and seeing them succeed.
A devoted member of the church, Bud served on vestries and as a scripture reader wherever he and Jeanne lived. His love of music, storytelling, and family traditions—especially summers at Cape May Point—were central to his life.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne; children Lynne, David, and Anne; brother David; eight grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son John, brother Lex, and nephew Brett.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 5 at Willowdale Chapel, Kennett Square, Pa.
