For several years on the Monday after Thanksgiving, members of the Fruitland Chamber of Commerce have been ringing the Salvation Army bell outside the two entrances of the local Walmart. Due to inclement weather this year, bell ringing could not take place.

Realizing that the money from the bell ringing is a major contributor to the Salvation Army’s operating budget, members of the board of the Fruitland Chamber of Commerce decided at its meeting on Dec. 2, to donate $500 to the Salvation Army as a small compensation for this season’s canceled bell ringing event.
