Brett Wade Elkington, a beloved husband, dedicated step-father, cherished son, and adoring brother, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born on Sept. 2, 1976, in Salt Lake City, UT, he was a son of Karen S. Elkington of Seaford and the late Dr. I. Kent Elkington, DDS, who passed July 11, 2024.
Brett was known for his passion for his work in the HVAC industry, where he excelled as a business owner and a gifted HVAC technician at K&B HVAC Services, LLC, a business he and his business partner and lifelong friend Keith H. Hornsby opened in 2012.
Brett attended school in Saudi Arabia before relocating to Seaford where he attended Seaford Public Schools before spending four years and completing the HVAC program at Sussex Tech. During his time in Saudi Arabia he enjoyed his “Buddy Boys” group of friends and together they enjoyed skateboarding, playing outdoors and snorkeling in the Red Sea. Brett had a huge heart for animals and he enjoyed all types of music. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Brett will be fondly remembered by those who knew him, especially his loving wife of almost 10 years, Karyn Ann Elkington; his son, Damien Elliott; his dear mother, Karen Elkington, and his loyal brother and best friend, Michael Elkington and wife, Audra, and his loving sisters, Kelly Elkington Wheeler and husband, Douglas, Jamie Elkington Nicholls, and Ashley Elkington Hatch and husband Jason. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends and business associates. His dedication to his family, friends, and career was evident in all that he did.
In addition to his father, Brett was preceded in death by a son, Brett Wade Elkington, Jr. and an infant sister, Mandy.
A visitation for Brett’s family and friends will be held on Friday, Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 pm at Short Funeral Home, 13 E Grove Street, Delmar, and also on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service which begins at 11. Interment will follow the services at Melson’s Cemetery in Delmar.
