Bonnie L. Wood, of Laurel and formerly of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 at the Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Bonnie was born Oct. 13, 1946 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late William K. Beach and Frances Davis Beach.

Bonnie grew up in Delmar and attended Delmar schools, where she played field hockey, softball and basketball. In her younger days, she had fond memories of working as a soda jerk at the Edgehill Pharmacy in Delmar.

In her work life, she was known for her amazing organizational and people skills and worked several places as an office manager, such as WBOC, Barr International and Wootten Welding. When Wootten was sold to Valley National she was retained and traveled to many offices around the country to assist in the integration of all of their computer systems. She was also a vital part of family businesses, Wood Brothers Construction and Carpet Corner, where she ran the office and helped with the books.

In her last job before retiring, Bonnie went to work as a Legislative Aide for the late Senator Bob Venables and Senator George Bunting. She truly enjoyed working in the political arena where she could use her position to help those in need. She was a fighter and an advocate for family and friends and anyone who needed help.

Bonnie was a lifetime member of St. Stephen’s Church in Delmar, where she served unselfishly in various capacities. She will be remembered for her joyous, contagious smile, her love for her church and her unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters and their families. All of her family will remember their trips with her to the Outer Banks where she glowed as bright as the sun.

She is survived by sons, Patrick Wood and wife Jeanne of Laurel, Larry Wood and wife Felicia Sanders of South Carolina and Troy Wood and wife Donna Vickers of Arizona; beloved grandchildren, Ryne Wood (Kayla), Grace Muse (Tyler), Jim Wood (Elise), Lara Lee Wood, Colin Wood, Quinn Wood and Macabe Wood; great-grandchildren, Abel, Owen, Job and Beckhem; sisters, Patricia B. Naugle (Bunky), Suzanne Roberts (John) and Sandie Perry; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Perry.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life was held on Sunday, Jan. 7 at St. Stephen’s Methodist Church in Delmar. The Reverend Phyllis Walton officiated. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen’s Methodist Church, Inc, 101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940.
