Our beloved Bonnie Kijewski of Laurel passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Camden, NJ to Evelyn and Clarence Birmingham on May 26, 1945 and raised in Camden County, New Jersey. Bonnie was predeceased by her husband Robert Kijewski, Sr. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Sarah, and their children Cooper and Addison; her son Michael and his wife Laura, and their children Jacob, Tyler, and Parker; and her loyal loving dog, Max.
A loving mother, Bonnie spent the balance of her early married life raising her sons in Woodbury, NJ, and always found time for her very close circle of childhood friends, including Ida Dziengowski, Judy Williams, and Eileen Muhlbaier and their husbands Frank, Shelly, and Ken. Bonnie was loved by those she knew in Woodbury, especially the neighborhood friends of her sons who saw her as a second mother. As an office aid at West End Elementary School, Bonnie was a calm and understanding voice to students and staff.
When she retired, Bonnie and her husband moved to Laurel in 2004 to enjoy their retired days tending to their home, traveling, enjoying wildlife and laughs. Always the selfless person, Bonnie volunteered her time to the Nanticoke Creekwatchers and the Laurel Lioness Club and made friends immediately. She touched everyone she was around with her sincerity, easygoing nature, welcoming spirit and, of course, a tremendous thoughtfulness.
There will be a Celebration of Life held in Bonnie’s (and her husband’s) honor at the United Methodist Church in Haddonfield, NJ, on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Laurel Lioness Club, PO Box 105, Laurel DE 19956. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
