Betty W. Lynch of Laurel passed away at her daughter’s home on Oct. 10 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Laurel, she is the daughter of the late Bayard Lee Wootten and Pauline M. Marvil Wootten. She graduated from Laurel High School and after graduation she went to work for Nanticoke Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator and worked her way up as an accounting supervisor. Betty retired as an accounting supervisor in the business department at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where she worked for over 35 years. 

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and formerly taught Sunday school, was a past president and treasurer of the United Methodist Women, also a past member of TOPS. Betty faithfully dedicated herself to volunteering and enjoyed volunteering at the Good Samaritan shop, serving the patrons and scheduling the staff on a weekly basis. When she became a resident of the Methodist Manor House, Betty became a volunteer by helping the new residents get acclimated to the facility. In her leisure, she enjoyed reading.   

She is survived by her son, Jerry Lynch and his wife Maxine of Laurel; her daughter, Janet Lecates and her husband Anthony of Laurel; her sister Virginia Coxe; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Linwood Lynch.

A walk through viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 West Market Street, Laurel, DE 19956. A funeral service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Lynch’s memory to Centenary United Methodist Church, C/O Board of Trustees, 200 West Market Street, Laurel, DE 19956.
