It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty L. Truitt of Delmar, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. Born on Aug. 8, 1947, in Salisbury, Betty spent her life filled with love, laughter, and travel, forever leaving a mark on everyone she encountered.

Betty was a devoted wife to her husband of 61 years, Charles “Bunky” Truitt, with whom she shared an incredible journey together since their marriage on June 11, 1964. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a memorable vow renewal ceremony in Hawaii, surrounded by friends and family.

For 30 years, Betty made a mark as a compassionate medical assistant, working alongside Dr. Tom Berry in Salisbury, where she touched the lives of many with her warm demeanor and caring spirit. Betty loved spending time with her family, especially when traveling with them and her dear friend, Carolyn Parsons. One of her fondest memories was a cherished trip to Greece with her daughter, Denise. Whether it was hitting the slots, enjoying meals out with loved ones, or celebrating holidays together, Betty thrived in the warmth of family gatherings. A lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles and a devoted follower of Cal Ripken, she also had a soft spot for Elvis Presley, having had the thrill of seeing him in concert. Betty was a longstanding member of St. Stephen’s Church in Delmar, where she found a community of support and fellowship.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles L. “Bunky” Truitt; her daughter, Denise Cathell (Mark); and her son, Kevin Truitt (Kandy). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Katie Jensen (Eric), Kaleigh Truitt, Ariana Truitt, Tyler Jester, Chad Cathell (Paige), McKinsey Venable (David), and Chase Cathell (Travesia), as well as her great-grandchildren, Mya Cartwright, Lyric Jensen, Mason Cathell, Delaney Cathell, Bradley Roberts, Carter Venable, Bailey Venable, and Amelia Venable. She is also survived by her sister, Gladys Truitt and her nephew, Rick Truitt, along with sister-in-law, Kathy Sheldon and her best friend, Carolyn Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Iona (Webster) Smack and her sister-in-law, Pamela Johnson.

A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at St. Stephen’s Church in Delmar. Pastor Paul James officiated.
