Graduating from North Dorchester High School, Hurlock, class of 1965, she was a member of the marching band and chorus (playing clarinet and the piano) from grades 7–12. Having trained to be an Airline Flight Attendant, through Weaver Airline School, Kansas City, MO, she decided not to continue and went to work as a secretary for Cambridge Scientific Industries, Airpax, Inc. and The J.M. Clayton Co. all in Cambridge.

Married on Feb, 27, 1966, she is survived by her loving husband, (who was the love of her life, also her best friend) Charles T. “Chuck” Whitten for 58 years. They have two daughters, Susan W. Thomas and husband Lynn Thomas Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. and Sandy W. Stinson and husband Aubrey (Chip) Stinson Jr. of Cordova, Md. and three granddaughters, Paige Lindsey Thomas, Beth Erin Thomas and Jenna Faith Stinson.

Upon moving to Delaware she worked as a secretary for Marcus Cable TV. Taking time off to be home with her children, she was active in the Seaford Schools PTO, the Mentor Reading Programs and secretary for the Seaford Middle School Marching Band Parents Association.  In 1989 she went back to work as a Medical Insurance Billing Secretary/Bookkeeper for Nanticoke Pathology Services until her retirement in November 2006.

In 2008 she came down with breast cancer and had been a survivor for 16 years.

Brown (Will) of Hanover, Pa., Kris Hughes and brothers- in-law, Harry “Tonto” Hughes of Mardela, Kelly Whitten Sr. of Cambridge and Lou Robbins of Griffith Neck and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Other than her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Air Force Capt. Stephen H. Reid and Harry E. Reid, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She loved her 24/7 time with her husband Chuck, all their traveling, with Tennessee being her favorite, and running up the hill next to the Van Trappe Family Inn in Stowe, VT., where the mountains had such beauty and peacefulness. She enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren, attending all in and out of school activities, playing her piano, and target shooting with Chuck, and the family. She also enjoyed watching Chuck fly his model plane with the Eastern Shore Aeromodelers Club.

She was a member of Reid’s Grove United Methodist Church, Reid’s Grove/Vienna, Md. where she began playing the piano for Worship Service at the early age of 9, and later playing for the senior choir and youth choir. All this gave her a total of 68 years playing piano in the church. She was the Altar Guild for a number of years and at one time had been a substitute Sunday School Teacher and helped with the music and taught at Vacation Bible School.  She had also attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Cambridge, and Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Reliance where she played for the youth choir.

A memorial service will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, on Saturday, July 6 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour before the service (casual dress).
