Grieving the loss of a loved one is difficult any time, but the holidays can cause even more stress and conflict for an individual or within a family. Asbury United Methodist Church, 26146 Asbury Rd. in Seaford, offers a quiet time to express grief, learn coping skills, emotional support services, and gain assurance your faith can be even more important.
A Blue Christmas Service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at the church. Pastor Kevin Wells welcomes all who are struggling with a loss to attend.
Participants will be assured it is normal to grieve and approaching the holiday themes of family, fun, and festivities can be daunting when there is an empty chair. Those attending will be given a list of community resources they may want to contact for support.
Everyone will be assured God’s grace will be with them through their grief. At the Blue Christmas Service, scripture will be shared that will give comfort and assurance God is always with you. There is no timeline for grieving as there is no limit to God’s love.
Following the service, light refreshments will be served. Participants will also be welcomed to stay in the chapel for some quiet time with God or may use the time to talk to other participants, encourage others and share time near the Blue Christmas tree that holds ornaments each representing a passed loved one.
Asbury United Methodist Church welcomes all to attend Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. for anyone seeking a church. Asbury is located on the corner of Asbury Rd. and County Seat Highway.
